Ukraine said it carried out overnight strikes deep inside Russia, hitting a major oil refinery and an airfield used by Russian strategic aviation. President Volodymyr Zelensky described the operation as "our long-range sanctions" against Russian facilities that he says finance Moscow's war effort. The Ukrainian military said the attack sparked a blaze at Engels airfield, a key base for Tu-95MC and Tu-160 bombers that regularly launch missile strikes against Ukraine. A refinery in the Saratov region was also hit, along with an oil depot in Kaluga and a drone launch site in Bryansk. Russia reported eight deaths from the strikes and said 635 drones were shot down or intercepted. Regional governors acknowledged damage in Saratov, Udmurtia, Belgorod and Samara, where a Wildberries warehouse caught fire. Ukraine has recently targeted several Wildberries logistics hubs, describing them as legitimate targets that provide the Russian military with drone components and other equipment. Moscow separately said its forces attacked two Ukrainian ports and two vessels in the Black Sea overnight. Ukraine later reported that one person was killed in a Russian strike on a postal terminal near Kharkiv. Both sides have intensified attacks on cities, energy sites and warehouses while the front line remains largely static and US-led mediation efforts have yet to show a breakthrough.
