Coinbase buys tokenized RWA from Abu Dhabi sovereign fund, puts it on balance sheet

Coinbase is investing in a tokenized fund from Mubadala, an Abu Dhabi sovereign wealth fund, and will hold the token on its own balance sheet. This is the first time a major US public company uses a regulated tokenized real-world asset for treasury management.

Details

Coinbase has announced a partnership with Mubadala Capital, the investment arm of Abu Dhabi's sovereign wealth fund, and tokenization infrastructure provider KAIO to issue a compliant on-chain token representing Mubadala's evergreen private market fund. The token will be offered to qualified investors. Coinbase will not only support the token issuance on its Base network but also purchase the token and hold it on its own balance sheet. This marks the first time a major US publicly traded company has used a regulated tokenized real-world asset (RWA) for native on-chain treasury management. The product will also be deployed on Solana and Sui networks, with KAIO providing compliant tokenization infrastructure. The project has already attracted approximately $75 million in capital, while Mubadala manages nearly $400 billion in assets.
