BitMEX to shut down by September 2026, halts new user registrations immediately

Details

Cryptocurrency exchange BitMEX has announced it will officially shut down on September 23, 2026, at 12:00 Beijing time, and has immediately halted new user registrations. The decision follows a strategic review by the board of its parent company, HDR Global Trading Limited. The platform will continue normal operations until the closure date, but starting from August 26, 2025, at 12:00 Beijing time, users will only be able to reduce existing positions, with no new positions allowed. Any remaining positions after the shutdown will be forcibly liquidated. Additionally, KYC-verified users who fail to withdraw their assets before the closure will be charged a monthly account management fee of $50 or 1% of their balance, whichever is higher, and this fee may increase. The announcement marks a significant move in the crypto exchange landscape, potentially impacting market liquidity and trader sentiment, especially for those with open positions on BitMEX.
