Arbitrum-based protocol AFX suffered a security breach on July 23 at 5:30 AM Beijing time, with attackers targeting a cross-chain bridge operated by the protocol. Approximately 24.15 million USDC was stolen in the incident. Security firm Blockaid confirmed it is working with the Arbitrum team to respond to the event, communicate with affected protocols, and assist in freezing the stolen funds. Offchain Labs co-founder Steven Goldfeder stated that the Arbitrum team is aware of reports regarding the cross-chain bridge attack and is investigating. Goldfeder clarified that the transactions originated from a third-party protocol, and the Arbitrum native bridge was not compromised or exploited. The team will coordinate with the third-party protocol and provide further details as the investigation progresses.
