Japanese convenience store giant Lawson is set to run Japan's first point-of-sale stablecoin payment experiment at two Tokyo stores in August. The trial will let customers pay directly at checkout using JPYC, USDC, and USDT through crypto wallets, without the need for dedicated payment terminals.

This pilot is a notable step toward integrating stablecoins into everyday retail payments in Japan. By working with familiar consumer wallets and standard POS registers, it lowers the friction for crypto payments and gives stablecoins a more practical role in daily transactions.
